To that end, one of these commonly utilized gemstones is jasper. A variety of silica, jasper is often found in red, brown, and yellow coloring. Less commonly, it is also seen in a green form. It is particularly ideal for jewelry because it is so easily polished to a high sheen.

Combining the two properties of bright, vibrant colors and high sheen, jasper remains one of the most popular and common gemstones in modern jewelry making. While it can be used in any type of jewelry, a jasper necklace is a particularly nice addition to any wooden jewelry box. A prominent necklace can add an element of drama to any outfit, especially if the outfit is dominated by neutral or solid colors and the necklace is brightly colored. And that drama is a surefire way to stand out and get noticed.

Nice jewelry is typically unique and one-of-a-kind, so you don’t want to damage the pieces if they are irreplaceable. There are some fairly easy ways around this, though. Here are some quick tips on jewelry storage.

~Isolate each jewel from one another; an easy and effective solution is to wrap each piece in layers of acid-free tissue paper, untreated cotton, or raw silk. If you sew, you might try creating individual, acid-free bags for this purpose, which you can also purchase.

~Getting a jewelry box or wooden ring boxes is imperative. Separating your pieces will ensure that necklaces won’t get tangled up and you can avoid each item scratching one another. You should also make sure that it has a key so only you are allowed to get inside.

Everything was so much simpler then. Kids didn’t have hi-tech video games; instead they kept themselves busy climbing trees, running around and making friends. Those days were so much fun, girls enjoyed collecting little cracker jack trinkets and placing them in their handcrafted jewelry box so they could pretend they were older than what they were.

But there are cherished items that are meant to be exhibited; trophies, medals, plaques, valuable china and silverware, exquisite figurines, and other heirloom pieces are examples of these. They bring pride and joy to their owner and thus should be seen and admired.

Display cabinets are perfect for holding your prized possessions; they effectively keep your treasures together where they can be viewed lovingly repeatedly. Some have pull-open, see through doors while the more practical ones have sliding glass doors. In addition to traditional keepsakes, many people keep their jewelry boxes and other ornate enclosures housed in the display cabinet as well.

Small pieces like fruit baskets and jewelry boxes are still easy to find. They are not hand carved but are machine made. The finish is flawless and details are superb. Wooden picture frames are great gifts as well. Choose the kind of wood that you like in the color that will blend with the wall.

Solid wood jewelry boxes are very much appreciated because they have become scarcer over the years. All this noise about preserving wood is making a negative effect on the wood carving industry. Have you noticed the shift from the hardwoods to softer kinds? It stands to logic because hardwoods take years to mature while the softer woods can be harvested in a few years. Let the carvers use sustainable wood and save wood art.

I was walking down the street looking at all the unique handmade crafts. I found the most beautiful wood jewelry boxes handcrafted. They had so much detail to them. The more that you looked at them the more detail you saw. I was very excited to find such unique gifts that I went back the week after and purchased a couple more.

My sister and I would just go crazy in her closet. Our grandmother refused to throw anything away so she had some really unique clothing and jewelry.

My sister and I would go to the back of our grandma’s closet and search in her jewelry box. She had two large two drawer jewelry boxes. When we asked her why she had two jewelry boxes she said to us “one was for me and one was one for my sister. My two favorite girls, that and I never know what I want to use for an accessory.” I think that my sister and I both knew that she wasn’t lacking in choices.

Place the jewelry you wear the most in the top drawer of your two drawer jewelry boxes. You’ll also want to make sure necklaces are clasped, earrings have their backings secured, and bag delicate pieces separately. Better still if the drawers are lined with a soft fabric that will help prevent jewelry getting scratched. If you are currently using a jewelry box that is unlined, but you love the design, then don’t worry; you can line the drawers yourself!

At your local fabric or craft store you can buy self-adhesive velvet sheets. Measure the interior of each jewelry box drawer. Using those measurements, cut the velvet sheets down to size. Take the lining off the back of the sheets and attach the velvet to the interior of the drawers, pressing firmly down on the edges and corners.
